We are one of the few consignors to have a major presence at both the yearling and mixed sales as well as the two-year old in training sales. This unique perspective allows us to advise you on where the best value is for selling your young horse. It also gives us a wider understanding of your buying market and access to more relationships in the industry. Woodford participates in all the major sales through the year with homebreds AND client horses at Keeneland, Fasig-Tipton and Ocala Breeders Sales.

What to Expect at the Sales


Beth Bayer, John Gleason and Shannon Castagnola are all available to inspect potential sale horses many months in advance of the sales and offer advice on sale preparation and sale selection. A strength Woodford has, which makes us different from other consignors, is we heavily participate in yearling and two-year old sales. We can evaluate your horse to determine if we think the best market for it is as a yearling or two-year old and advise you on where your strength lies and just as importantly, what to avoid.


The Woodford Team will make sale entries on your behalf and provide full details of what documentation needs to be put in place ahead of the sales. These include an Authorized Agent form, Consignor Agreement, EVA, Coggins, Health Certificate,
X-Rays and scope documents for each horse, for each sale.

Woodford will examine the pedigree proof of your sale horse to see if any improvements to the pedigree page can be made. We will also make sure you receive a copy of the proof and appreciate any updates you are aware of and want to pass along. No one knows your horse like you do. Our goal is to work together to sell your horse for as much as possible.


You will be advised of a ship in day and time for your horse which will be met by an experienced Woodford staff member and taken to their stall. On ship in day your horse will receive a bath and we will evaluate to make sure the horse came in sound, healthy and happy. Should we need to call a farrier to reset a shoe we will do that. Should we need a vet, we will contact you.


A team of top class experienced sales staff will show your horse in a professional manner. The Woodford Team will also be actively engaged with potential buyers making sure to be available to assist and answer questions.

Experience tells us what certain buyers are looking for and we can often add your horse to the buyer’s inspection list.


Upon the completion of each day we will email you a detailed report of who looked at your horse, how many times your horse was shown, and if a vet has reviewed
X-Rays in the repository and/or scoped your horse. If you enjoy technology we can provide you with an app on your phone where you can check this information at your leisure. We update the list a couple of times a day.


Woodford prides itself in having a consignment that has enough horses for buyers not to overlook us, but small enough where we can give individual attention to the horses and to buyers. The Woodford consignment is professional, efficient and knowledgeable.

Woodford has the reputation of being honest and forthright. Buyers know they can trust the information we provide.

If a horse fails to meet its reserve, the Woodford Team will evaluate who was interested in the horse during the show period and reach out to those people.


Woodford Thoroughbreds maintains a strong presence on social media, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We promote our consignments using these platforms to drive interested buyers to our sale site to give them a virtual peak at the horses we are selling.

A benefit to buyers is we continue to market our horses on social media, keeping the accomplishments of the horse in the public’s mind and offering what amounts to free advertising of the horse, the owner and trainer.
